John J Reiser

Short Bio

I'm a 23 year old living in Highland Park, New Jersey. My scholarly interests are urban planning, community redevelopment, environmental justice and transportation effects on small towns. My leisurely interests are Perl programming, South Jersey history and ecology, my family and my loving girlfriend Kate.

Education

I am currently a graduate student at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. I am working towards my MCRP in planning at the Bloustein School.

Geography

Any topic given a spatial perspective can be the object of study for a geographer.

My Maps - Some useful, some not, all by me.
Pop versus Soda - charting the local term for "carbonated beverage"
GeoUrl - mapping websites

Professional Work

I've presented with Dr. John Hasse at the 2003 EPA conference in Philadelphia and the Middle States AAG on our teams work with the EPA grant.

I presented a poster at the 2004 AAG Centennial Meeting poster session on South Jersey Rail. You can download the poster here (PDF - 7.7MB)

My senior seminar project is available online. I'm currently working on two papers on the same subject.

Web Projects

I tinker around with Perl. Lately, I haven't been able to do much of anything.

AOL Robots - still up, even though a re-write and windows PARs would be nice.
Newsfeeder - RDF/XML to HTML converter so I can read my favorite sites from one page.
Fark XML Feed - I wrote this so I can read Fark from the same page mentioned above.
Quickboard - got the idea from verylowsodium.

All the above are free for personal web use. Source code available on request.

You should also take a look at why you should ditch internet explorer and start a new life free of online problems. Well, not entirely free. There'll always be spam.

Website

I've had something up at newrisedesigns.com since November 2000. Its current incarnation is simply just a simply designed site that features items of interest important to myself or my friends.

Read my thoughts.
